S H A R P E N I N G FACTS & INFO:

Skate Sharpening will make or break the player. You will never skate better than the sharpening you are playing on at Game time! There are 7 "real" degrees of Sharpness that can be cut into your skate blades (if anyone is telling you differently, consider them wrong). As a player, you should find a "hollow" (degree of sharpness) that allows you to best cut the ice without slowing down your stride ...and find a "radius" that gets you quick blade transition withOUT taking away from your balance. Often, players (or parents) think its all the same when they bring skates to have them " s h a r p e n e d. " The basis of skate sharpening is the "radius of a circle." A cirlce that measures 1 inch across will have a flatter curve if compared to a 1/2 wide circle.This curve is the 'hollow" that is cut into the width of your skate blade. The deeper the hollow (curve)...the more the skate cuts into the ice. A 3/8 inch circle has a drastic curve and grabs the ice much harder. 5/8 inch is alot flatter and thus will grab less.
